MAC 2311 : Calculus with Analytic Geometry I

The first course in the calculus sequence: limits and continuity, the derivative and its applications, and an introduction to the definite integral and antiderivatives.

Instructor: Abel Okojunu

Term: Spring 2024

Role

Instructor of record, Spring 2024, responsible for classroom instruction, student mentoring, and assessment feedback. The course was coordinated across multiple sections, with a common departmental syllabus and shared assessments.

Course Overview

The first course in the calculus sequence, taken primarily by students in mathematics, engineering, and the physical sciences. It develops the derivative from the limit concept, applies it to rates and optimization, and introduces integration and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.

Topics

  • Functions, limits, and continuity
  • The derivative: definition, differentiation rules, and implicit differentiation
  • Applications of the derivative: related rates, optimization, and curve sketching
  • The definite integral and constructing antiderivatives
